NPR Music Launches Online Music Channel

What better time than the 10th anniversary of NPR Music’s All Songs Considered to launch a new online music channel that provides a non-stop mix of every song ever played on ‘All Songs Considered’ since its debut in January 2000.

Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton, co-hosts of NPR Music’s ‘All Songs Considered,’ marked the special occasion of their 10 years of helping audiences discover new music with the debut of All Songs 24/7 Music Channel.

The All Songs 24/7 Music Channel seemed like a logical step for Boilen and Hilton, especially when you consider the enormous catalogue of music the duo have amassed in 10 years of spotlighting new music on All Songs Considered

Boilen saved a playlist of every track ever featured – from the first song from a then-undiscovered Justin Vernon, to guest DJ sets from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke or filmmaker John Waters.

By turning the archive into an online stream, NPR Music gives music fans a nice opportunity to enjoy favorite tracks any time, any day; the stream is continuously updated with material from each new show to keep it fresh for listeners.

At the All Songs Considered blog, Boilen offers his thoughts on the show’s past decade of music discovery, and reposts the first ever All Songs from the first week of January, 2000.

In addition to the new mix channel, All Songs Considered is available weekly as streaming audio and for download at www.npr.org/allsongs, as well as a podcast and a radio broadcast.

Boilen created All Songs Considered as a Web-only program in January 2000, after receiving countless letters from listeners wanting to know more about the music that he, as director, played between stories on the NPR newsmagazine All Things Considered. Hilton joined All Songs Considered shortly after its creation.

The Emmy-nominated and Webby-winning show features roundtable discussions about new music, reviews, live concerts, artist interviews and guest DJ appearances.

The channel is also included in the NPR Music app for iPhone.
